How do I create my WhatsApp link?
WhatsApp publishes the format itself: https://wa.me/ followed by your full number in international format. For India that is 91 and then your 10 digit number, with no plus sign, zero, spaces or dashes.
- Keep the country code as 91 for an Indian number.
- Type your 10 digit WhatsApp number. Spaces and a leading 0 are removed for you.
- Add a message if you want the customer to start with it, for example the product they are asking about.
- Press "Test it" and check that your own chat opens.
- Copy the link, or download the QR code for print.
Where to use your WhatsApp link
- Instagram and Facebook bio, so a follower can message you without searching.
- A QR code on your visiting card, counter or delivery bag.
- A "Chat with us on WhatsApp" button on your website. Use "Copy website button code" and paste it into your site.
- Product messages: one link per product, each with its own ready message, so you know what the customer saw.

Why does a WhatsApp link not open?
Most broken links have the number in the wrong format. WhatsApp's own example says use https://wa.me/1XXXXXXXXXX and not a number with a plus, brackets or dashes.
The number must also have an active WhatsApp account. A link to a landline without WhatsApp will open, but no chat can start.

What is a wa.me link?
It is WhatsApp's own short address for starting a chat. WhatsApp's help page tells you to use https://wa.me/ followed by a full phone number in international format.
Can someone message me without saving my number?
Yes. WhatsApp says click to chat lets a person begin a chat without having your number saved in their phone's address book. It works on the phone and on WhatsApp Web.
How do I add a ready message to my WhatsApp link?
Add ?text= and your message, URL-encoded, after the number. This tool does the encoding for you. WhatsApp says the message appears in the text field of the chat, and the customer still presses send.
Can I make a link with only a message and no number?
Yes, https://wa.me/?text= followed by your message. WhatsApp then shows the person a list of their contacts to send it to. It is useful for "share this offer" links.
