How to generate a UPI QR code
A UPI QR code holds a payment link that starts with upi://pay. NPCI, which runs UPI, lists the payee UPI ID (pa) and payee name (pn) as the fields every link needs.
- Type your UPI ID exactly as your UPI app shows it, for example yourshop@okaxis.
- Type the name customers should see when they scan.
- Leave the amount empty for a counter QR. Fill it in for one fixed bill.
- Add a short note if you want, like an order number.
- Download the QR or the printable poster.
UPI QR code with a fixed amount
NPCI's rule is simple: if the amount (am) is not in the link, the customer can type the amount. If it is in the link, the amount is filled in for them.
Use a fixed amount for one order or a fixed fee, like a ₹500 consultation. Use no amount for the QR you keep on the counter.

Before you print it
- Scan the QR with your own phone and pay ₹1 from a different UPI app than the one your UPI ID is in.
- Check that the name on the payment screen is the name you typed.
- Check that the ₹1 reaches your bank account.
- Only then print it. A wrong letter in the UPI ID sends customers to a dead end.
Common questions
What is a UPI QR code?
It is a QR code of a UPI payment link. NPCI's specification says merchant apps "must generate a URL" in its format "and then create a QR code of that URL". Any UPI app that can scan reads it.
How do I generate a UPI QR code with a specific amount?
Type the amount in the "Fixed amount" box before you download. The amount is added to the link as am, and the customer sees it filled in when they scan.
How do I print a UPI QR code for my shop?
Download the printable poster. It is sized for A5 paper, with your name above the QR and your UPI ID below it. Test it with ₹1 before you print.
Why is my UPI QR code not working?
Check the UPI ID letter by letter against your UPI app. Then scan and pay ₹1 from a second UPI app. If the name or the payment is wrong, the UPI ID is the first thing to fix.
